Hotel Review: Glenroyal Hotel, Maynooth, County Kildare,
Ireland -
 August, 2017.

I stayed at the Glenroyal Hotel in Maynooth, County Kildare,
Ireland in August 2017. Two of us stayed for two nights over a weekend, bed and
breakfast, which cost £288 booked with Booking.com.

The hotel is very centrally located in the town, a 2 minute
walk from where the Airport Hopper bus drops you off, and a 5 minute walk from
Maynooth Railway station. We arrived early due to catching an early flight, but
despite this we were found a room by very helpful and friendly receptionist
'Katie' and could so check in several hours early.

After checking in, we had a good breakfast at the Shoda
Market Cafe, which is within the hotel building (Farmer John's or Farmer Jack's
Breakfast - the precise name escapes me).

The hotel is very well presented with thick carpets and well
maintained decor. The room we were allocated 207, was fairly small, with just a
double bed, I must admit we have got used to king-sized beds when staying in
hotels, so this bed did feel a bit on the small side. The bathroom had a
walk-in shower, with just a small step up, along with sink and toilet, all good
really.

One of the reasons that we booked this hotel, was that it
had a swimming pool, what we had not realised though, was that the hotel had
two large pools, one a family 'leisure' pool, the other an adult only swimming
pool. Both of the pools were great. The adult pool was often busy, but we found
that the leisure pool was fairly quiet on an evening. They were a real high
point of our stay, the swimming pools and leisure facilities at this hotel are
truly excellent.

The restaurant was very busy at breakfast, but we managed to
find a table. The breakfast is buffet style, but the hot items are served to
you by some very fast and efficient chefs.

The hotel has a very good bar, Saint's Bar, which the Rose
of Tralee contestants were enjoying a singalong in there one evening during our
stay.

Unfortunately our room was not great, it was South facing
and got very hot, but if you opened the window you got the noises and smells
from the extractor fans from the kitchen and restaurant. What was worse though,
was that out neighbour in room 205 was very loud on the phone for long periods
of time, and we could hear every word, the walls between rooms are evidently
thin. We decided to ask if we could move rooms, and again Katie on reception
was exceptionally helpful. We moved along the corridor to room 211, which was
still south facing and hot, but at least we no longer had the noisy neighbour.

If I ever visit Maynooth again in future, I would still
consider staying at this hotel, BUT I would ask for a room on the 2nd floor at
the very end of a corridor with a car park view. If you are considering staying
here, I would recommend you making this request before your stay.

In summary, this is an excellent hotel, with great staff,
excellent leisure facilities and a super breakfast, but the rooms and beds are
a little on the small side, the bedroom walls are seemingly quite thin, and the
South facing rooms get very hot on sunny days.

This film features external views of the hotel, the
reception, The Roses of Tralee (who were attending an event at the hotel), the
lift / elevator, the 2nd floor, detailed room reviews of room 207 and 211, the
breakfast buffet, the restaurant, the leisure club, the leisure swimming pool,
the adult swimming pool, the hydro-therapy pool, Shoda Market Cafe and Saint's
Bar.

Maynooth is a university town in north County Kildare,
Ireland. Maynooth is located on the R148 road between Leixlip and Kilcock, with
the M4 motorway bypassing the town. To read more about Maynooth, click here:
