Hotel review: Steigenberger Hotel Esplanade, Jena, Thuringia, Germany - June 2017.



The Steigenberger Hotel Esplanade is located in central Jena, next to the Goethe Gallerie shopping mall. It is a short 5 minute walk from Jena Westbahnhof, and around a ten minute walk from Jena Paradies Bahnhof.



I stayed at the Steigenberger Hotel Esplanade in Jena in June 2017, I stayed at the hotel for two nights in a Superior Room. The hotel is very modern and over many levels. If you are on floors 4,5,6,7 or 8 you need to take two elevators up to your room. I was in room 614, which was spacious and modern, with a good sized SINGLE bed, desk, mirrors, table and chair, mini-bar, safe and wardrobes. The bathroom was clean, crisp and polished with sink, toilet and a shower / bath.



The room had a balcony with a nice view over the Goethe Gallerie shopping mall.



The building is a very warm building, and I found the air-conditioning to be frustratingly poor, making the room very warm. You cannot control your own air-conditioning, you need to ring reception, and half of the time it just didn't work. Germany gets HOT in Summer, and this room became uncomfortably warm, so warm that this would put me off staying at this hotel again during the Summer months, which is a shame, because it is otherwise a great hotel.



The breakfast buffet was extensive and really excellent quality, a definite plus point for this hotel.
